I had to get up on this. I’m well aware of Grand Grandito’s epic cassingle collection and I wanted to share a couple gems that I had laying around as well.. while I no longer have my Ini Kamozi “Hot Stepper” cassingle, or my Coca-Cola Sampler Tape that featured such artists as Dana Dane and 3rd Bass, I do have these few from the end of the cassingle era… first up…

Jurassic 5 - Unified Rebelution (1995)

J5 Cassingle

This isn’t really the greatest cassingle as far as exclusives go, except of course for the fact that the song is exclusive to this tape and a 12″ floating around somewhere. Release on Blunt Re(C)ordings but strangely DISTRIBUTED by TVT out of New York. The estiute reader might recognize TVT as the label you get your favorite Ying Yang Twinz and Lil Jon records from. It should be noted that the song is performed by “Unity Committee and Rebels of Rhythm”. This is something I’m sure not many people care about any more but there was a time when this song was the shit. J5 then went on to record songs with The Dave Matthews Band, nuff said. Next up…

(I believe that’s me)
Ugly Duckling Journey To Anywhere Snippet Tape (2000)

UD Cassingle

I know, I know, not a classic but this lil tape actually got a lot of play in my old 88 Volvo 240DL. (I think BDK owned one of those so you know it’s hip hop son!) The awesome thing about this bad boy was that it was pretty much all skits. It had three snippets from the album, two joke songs.. “Indoesia ‘92″ and “Big Bank Take Little Bank ‘92″. the track listing boasts a whopping 9 tracks… an intro, snippet, hosting, joke song, hosting, snippet, joke song, hosting, snippet, hosting, outro… really.. amazing, it’s hosted by K. Jackson who I believe is actually Double K of PUTS. this tape is only 1/3 real music and that’s something us here at routinefly.com can really appreciate.

The one tape I couldn’t find was an old Pharcyde cassingle that had an exclusive track on it that’s title slips my mind.. and I think I got it on a bootleg 7″ a few years later.. anyway, I’m clearly not as well versed as m’man Grip but I like to offer my perspective. Now I’m just waiting for the rest of Grip’s posts so we can get some real school… recess is over suckas!

Those are both hot Cassingles.

Something to say?
