Chick-o-Stick pick of the week. 2008 EDITION #3
Quick… Someone make up some new holidays! I need something to look forward to here at the office. On the bright side of things I have Grip to thank for my recent trips to Golden Apple Comics and the unearthing of my old collection (I’m sure my wife thanks you too). But now that I’ve started reading them again I am hell bent on finishing them and I’m missing issues! Critters was 50 issues and I have like 20. All bad… Something else to obsess about.
On the reality TV front, I got to watch The Biggest Loser Couples last night for the first and, most likely last, time. Nothing says entertainment like sweaty fat people engaged in vigorous exercise! While I commend anyone brave enough to go through the work necessary to shed a whole person in body fat.. I don’t feel that this needs to be documented and or placed on prime time TV. But I will say it was kinda nice to eat a pint of ice cream from my couch while watching obese people doing Kung Fu..shit was hilarious…dude was feeling it!
Anyway..music: I was torn this week. I was flippin through the ol collection over the weekend and came across some goodies that I had forgot about and most folks that I send this out to never even heard of.
First up is Natural Resource. This is the group that gave us What?What?..now Jean Grae but she’s grossly underutilized on this track contributing only some backup vocals. I played this almost daily for a while back in the late 90’s and I think I’ll start playing this again now that I’ve rediscovered it.
This next track was my JAM! I love the vibe and it was a must spin at house parties. I think I’ll throw it back into the set and see what happens. Milkbone got a little fame when he was the “other” white rapper on Aftermath. That was well after this little single was released… on the vinyl it actually says Feat. Biggie Smalls. Ha! Where’s the party at?!
That’s all for now.. Enjoy and shit.
P.S. Glade Air Infusions..Apple Cinnamon is effective cover up for McDonalds breakfast dumps.

“Whoever said we wasn’t dope lied…”
That’s tight. The cut I remember from this single was “Negro League Baseball”, but I wasn’t really up on the flip.
Milkbone, though? Milkbone?!? He reminds me of a West Coast A.D.O.R., if that reference means anything to anyone. White rappers…what will they think of next?
By the way, my sincerest apologies if I in any way facilitated your relapse into the deep, dark addiction that is comics. The same thing happened to me…a friend (thanks a lot, Ian) told me about a new comic that sounded good. I hadn’t read a comic in years. I went and bought it. I liked it. So I bought another. And another. And another. That was a few years ago. Nine short-boxes later, I now work at a comic shop one day a week, mostly for the discount. Which is like getting crack with a discount. You just buy more. So, are you getting older? Stopped doing a lot of regular drugs? Need a replacement, a regular itch to scratch? Try comics. They’re like crystal meth for the 25-and-over set.
And now, if you’ll pardon me, today was new comic day…I have some books to read.

i cosign that natural resources 12″. i can’t cosign the milkbone.
natural resources reminds me of natural elements, who also “came out” at the same time. natural elements is raw as hell. i recently got their unreleased tommy boy album…it didn’t age as well as the singles.

Natural Elements was dope! My joint was “2 Tons”, that one was the lick. I should try and post it if I can dig it out of the “crates” (as the kids say)…
