I’m baaaaack! Yeah, yeah, another day, another dollar. I will put it with two more, and then I can buy a comic. Plus tax. Actually, what I’m really excited about buying this week is of course Tha Carter III. So I’m a keep this brief…I gotta get to the store. But before I begin, I’d like to point out a format change. I’ll no longer be including my opinions on last week’s books in the body of the Pull List. Instead, I’ll hit ‘em up in the comments section of the appropriate week. So check last week’s blog for opinions on last week’s books. Makes sense, right? Word up. Let’s go.

Looks like a short list this week, but only because I don’t go in for stuff like Skaar: Son of Hulk. If everyone says it’s the best, maybe I’ll buy it, though it doesn’t look like my cup of tea. I seem to only like the Ultimate Hulk. But as I’ve said before, if anyone has a reading list that will convince me that Hulk isn’t lame, get at me. So…obviously I won’t be reading the Hulk this week, but will I read?

DC’s Trinity is back with #2 in its 52-week cycle. I’ll grab the next issue or two, since I like the soap-opera aspect of weekly books, but so far, this ain’t the greatest.

From the House of Ideas, we have Eternals (Vol. 2) #1, picking up at the end of the terrific Volume 1 by Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. (a real one-two punch, creatively-speaking). This new installment lacks the big names (story by the Knaufs, art by someone else), but the premise established in the first arc (and, I suppose, in the old Eternals stories by Jack Kirby) is strong, so I’ll check it out.

Lastly (already? only three books?) we’ve got The Twelve #6. I have to admit that, much as I enjoyed the early issues of this book, I’ve kind of lost interest. I just can’t focus when I read this book…maybe if it had some Skrulls in it, to show that it was happening in the actual Marvel Universe and not in a vacuum. I mean, it’s not bad, but let’s just say the only time it’s one of the first few books I read is when the pile is only a few books deep…like this week. So you better not disappoint me, Twelve. Now’s your time to shine. Be tight, or you’re cut.

Alrighty, then, that about does it. Here’s looking forward to next week, when hopefully the shelves won’t be filled with duds and reprints (sorry, This Week, no offense). Since one of you clowns is sure to buy Skaar, drop on by and tell me how it was. ‘Til next time…

Bagged and boarded,

Grip

Twelve sucked last week… Perhapanauts was weak…Sercret Invasion one shot bored me..and I’m just altogether a bitter man right now. Still have the Punisher one shot to go and latest XForce. But I dig Locke & Key..so yeah.

Yeah, it’s tough. And once I eliminated all the books that bored me, I was left with a pretty short list. For instance, this coming Wednesday I think I only have one title to buy. I didn’t read the Twelve yet (which must mean I’m pretty over it), nor did I read Eternals (I’ll catch up with it, the next issue won’t be out for a bit). Pretty dull week, this last. I didn’t get that Secret Invasion one-shot…books like that seem to be a marketing ploy more than anything. They’re almost never worthwhile…for instance, the Captain Marvel story (which I flipped through)didn’t reveal much that wasn’t in the (recently completed) Captain Marvel mini-series, and at the end it said “to be continued in Secret Invasion #1″ or something–and SI is already on #3. So whatever impact that story tie-in would have had two issues ago, we’ve already felt it.

But if you want something really, really great to read, go pick up the trades for the Walking Dead (super addictive, and I don’t usually go in for this type of thing) or for the Bendis run on Daredevil (best thing ever…start with Daredevil Vol. 4–Underboss…I can’t recommend this enough, and I never was a Daredevil fan before reading it)…trades are probably the biggest bang for your buck at the shops. But we all read the weeklies, because we love the soap opera aspect. Admit it.

I do.. I do… The one shots are perfect toilet reading. But they mostly have nothing to do with anything. Anything with Neil Gaiman I’m in.. but the little preview story kinda turned me off…maybe it had something to do with them PUTTING IT IN EVERY ISSUE!! .

Something to say?
