Dennis Elliott on drumsHow important are drums to rap music? The foundation. Some classic songs are just drums. When you think of Primo what’s the first thing that comes to mind? His punch-you-in-the-chest Kicks and slap-you-in-the-head Snares. JayDee… his swingy drum patterns. JustBlaze… Breaks for days. You see my point. Drums are crucial to rap production.
I’ve been digging for drums since 93. All praises due to Moodswing9 aka Cuz aka Dave aka Trainspotter #1 aka Highlander aka the founder of The Vinyl Monkeys. Cuz put me (and everyone else in the vinyl monkeys) up on hundreds and hundreds of breaks. There’s nothing like the feeling of picking up a record you have never heard of or seen before, flipping through it and finding that open drum break. Anybody who digs knows the feeling i’m talking about. Second hand stores, thrift shops and flea markets are treasure hunts with little slabs of vinyl heaven.
a few of the best things in life…
Sex with someone you love.
Taking a huge dump.
Finding an ill drum break no one else has.

Even though there is nothing to really “comment” on this post, i think these are the types of posts that will eventually get people who don’t know us to visit the blog. No one gives a shit about our stupid opinions on rap music, but if you can come download some free shit i would do that. for all the producers out there.
