Grip’s Pull List for 08-13-08

August 12th, 2008 by Grip Grand

Skrulls. You know what I’m sayin’? I think you do. Everyone’s a Skrull (including all those people who thought that the Dark Knight movie was better than Iron Man), and I can’t trust the lot of you. Therefore, I shouldn’t be revealing top-secret information like the contents of my pull-list, especially not in a forum as public as this one. I mean, everyone totally reads this blog…even the Skrulls. So I guess I’d better watch my back, and in the meantime I’ll be down at my local Kree watering-hole, trying to make some friends.

Jail For Life – Case #J4L-0002

August 8th, 2008 by Richie Cunning

Hello again, citizens. Welcome back to Jail For Life. I presume that I need not explain the rules of conduct for this courtroom as I remember stating them quite clearly in Case #J4L-0001. Any person still unclear about the way this court functions is welcome to voice their questions and concerns. All questions and concerns will be addressed and immediately answered by an unappealable sentencing to jail for life. That being said, let us move forward with the proceedings. There are not enough cells in the world to hold all the indefensible miscreants that deserve neither the thrill of freedom nor the liberation of death, but remember this….for every breath of freedom we snatch out of their lungs, Uncle Sam donates one dollar to the Poseidon Prison Program, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of fully automated underwater penitentiaries. God bless them. Let’s get our incarceration on. All rise. The honorable Judge Cunning presiding.

How to eat off rap.

August 7th, 2008 by admin

Let me first say that I don’t “eat off rap” so I am not qualified to give advice on “what to do”, but I have seen first hand some of my friends make their entire living off rap.

If you are anything like me (the fact that you are reading this at routinefly means you are) there’s nothing you would love more than to create/perform rap music and get paid well for it.

I’m going to direct this post towards rappers, i suppose it could be used for producers/djs as well but that’s another post.

As I write this I realize this topic is way bigger than I though and there is no way I can touch on every aspect, so I will focus on one of the most important/difficult ones

MAKE A LOT OF SONGS!

The more music you make the more money you’ll make. The game has changed, it’s not 12″ singles and radio shows anymore, it’s blogs and mixtapes (why are they still called tapes?). This is what separates successful artists from wannabes.

Every artist who has “made it” can write and record a song in 1 day.

If you can’t produce a steady stream of songs to keep fans interested, no one will be interested. If you don’t have a new cd to sell at shows you aren’t going to make any money. Rap is here today, gone today. That little freestyle that got posted at www.nahright.com is already off the front page, no one cares. You have to keep cranking out product.

There is no need to get signed to a record label anymore. (Not that it wouldn’t be nice) If you have the motivation and product (songs) there are tons of ways to get them out to the public, and best of all, places like www.tunecore.com where you can upload your music digitally for sale all over the world.

All the artists who cannot produce enough product will not be able to eat off rap.

…I have to get back to work. I have a “job”. rap is only a hobby for me…

Oh yeah, you have to do a shitload of shows too.

Grip’s Pull List for 08-06-08

August 6th, 2008 by Grip Grand

Comics, comics, comics. Where have you been? Sure, I know the San Diego Comicon was last week, so I didn’t expect a lot of first-tier books on the rack. I came home with one title (Old Man Wolverine, still ain’t read it), and even for me that’s slim pickings. Will this round be any different? Let’s look into our crystal ball (aka the internet) for a sneak peak…

The Diamond D Award…Part One

August 3rd, 2008 by Grip Grand

Y’all know what it is. The honorary Diamond D Best Producer On The Mic award. Best rapper who is also a producer, or vice versa. Preferably, that means they had classics and/or hits on the mic and on the boards, for themselves or others. And just so you know: all those genius cats up above? Not eligible. R-Kelly and Teddy Riley? Not eligible. This is a hip-hop award. You know what that means. Beats. Rhymes. Life. Anyone who mentions a non-rapper will be disqualified.
