So…nerds will find the above funny. The rest of you aren’t reading this. Unless you’re some kind of alpha-jock, cruising the net for nerds to fight. What a jerk. Well, even though you’re a jerk, you might enjoy this instead. It’s an animated clip of the Watchmen. They re-did the whole thing this way. You can buy it on iTunes or some shit. Don’t ask me.

That was pretty cool, right? Now go watch the rest on YouTube or something. And do it on your own time, pal. Look, enough dilly-dallying. We all know why we’re here. Comics. Fresh batch today. Let’s do this.

Criminal (Vol. 2) #5: Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips continue to knock this pulp classic out of the park. If you like crime fiction, film noir, or anything along those lines, pick this book up. Taut writing, dramatic artwork, plus high-quality essays about pulp novels and movies and such at the end of each issue. Good stuff.

Secret Invasion #6: It’s here! The next issue of SI. I really like this story, even though its current scope is a little beyond my grasp. I haven’t followed it through all the tie-ins and crossovers, but SI is the Marvel tale I’m most interested in. Way to be, Bendis.

Deadpool #1: The merc with the mouth is back! Deadpool is not a character I have more than a passing acquaintance with, but the concept intrigues me. I like banter, and this book oughta have a heapin’ helpin’…if not, I’ll be out a few bucks. We’ll see.

Ultimate Origins #4: I copped the sweet variant cover from Alex Maleev. This title carries on the task of tying all the Ultimate Universe characters together so that the upcoming Ultimatum event can tear them apart again. Someone’s gonna die. Should be fun. Maybe this book is, too.

The Stand #1 and Dark Tower-Treachery #1: This week brings us not one but two debut issues from the comic world of Stephen King. Fans rave over the Dark Tower series, and justifiably so. I’ve only read the first trade, but it was really good. Not the same type of thing as your average funny book, but still a great read, with a very distinct look and tone. The second arc of the Dark Tower will be out before Christmas. The third begins today with Treachery #1. As for the Stand, it’s from a different creative team, but it looks to be another solid offering. Either way, I would have bought these. Few things are more collectible than Stephen King first editions, so it can’t hurt to have a couple in the long-box. Prices on limited variant covers of the earlier Dark Tower arcs have continued to climb. So cop a couple for the grandkids.

I think that’s all, folks. Go down to the shop and get yours. I already got mine. Until next time…

Bagged and boarded,

Grip
