Grip Grand–Big In Japan, Pt. 1
OK, calling this post “Part 1″ might be wishful thinking, but we’ll see. I stumbled onto this clip earlier today while I was looking up my favorite artist on YouTube. This is a video for DJ SLY’s “Etupirka” featuring Grip Grand…which is to say, a song I’m on. I don’t know if this record is out yet, but I did two songs over music by Japan’s own DJ SLY for his album on Yanase Records. Both of them are essentially redone versions of famous Japanese pop songs, plus my raps. I know what you’re thinking…but I’m not sure how to spell the noise a tumbleweed makes when it rolls through a desert full of softly chirping crickets. Anyway, this video may or may not be an official release from the record company, but regardless I enjoyed it. Thanks a lot, whoever you are.
OK, check this thing out, and help make it famous. I’m told that there’s a mellow-rap movement going on in the Land of the Rising Sun, and I plan to be on the frontlines. Platinum yacht-hop here we come! So watch this new video, leave your troubles behind, and let’s all float on the carefree breeze to Coolsville…population us.
Taking in some real laid-back tunes and just totally enjoying life,
Grip

Fun fact! On the day I got these beats from Japan, I was also given a deadline–write, record, edit, and mix two brand new songs from scratch, all on my lonesome…and be done in six days. Was I skeptical? Sure, who wouldn’t be? But did I get it done? You bet your ass I did.
By the way, those last four sentences are me doing my Robert Evans impression. For another quality Evans impersonator, go here:

Or of course, here’s a glimpse of the all-time greatest Robert Evans impersonator…Robert Evans:

I read his autobiography…insane. But the book-on-tape version is obviously where it’s at. I haven’t seen the flick yet.
